Snap Tennis Classic – 27-30 December 2009

This year will see the third running of this tournament; in 2007 we had around 150 entrants and last year nearly 300 which is about the maximum we can have without using another venue. Last year we received positive feedback about the way the tournament was conducted overall-match, court presentation and kitchen services. The tournament was a success due to the great support we received from members.

Memberís assistance is again sought by working in the kitchen say for a morning or afternoon or by providing donations of such things cakes, biscuits or raffle prizes. Please see the lists in the clubrooms for further information. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

The major sponsor this year is Snap Printing (Grant Vernon). Other sponsors are:

  • Professional Michael Johnson & Co (Wayne Firns)
  • Tennis Only (Hayden Gibson)
  • De Bortoli Wines (Manny Loucas)
  • Smiths Crisps (Terry Tolcan)
  • Dunlop Slazenger Sports
  • City of Stirling

Members are asked to support these companies and businesses by buying their products and using their services.

Raffle:

One way of raising more funds at the tournament is by having a raffle, it would be great if we could obtain 1 or 2 substantial prizes or have a long list of prizes. At this stage we have tickets to the Hopman Cup and a couple of tennis rackets. If any member is in a position to donate or able obtain donations please contact Wayne Firns on 0410 564 785.

Events:

This year the tournament has gained further prestige as for the first time ever some ITF Seniors events will be held at a local metropolitan open tournament. Four events have been sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation and players will have the opportunity to obtain World Ranking points. The events are:

  • Menís and Ladies 35 and Over Singles
  • Menís and Ladies 55 and Over Singles

Players who enter these events and gain points will have them credited to whatever age they qualify for, so if a person who qualifies for 60s and over gains some points in the 55s and over, then those points would be credited to them for a 60s and over world ranking.

In addition Menís and Ladies 35 and Over round robin doubles events will be held.

The seniorís events in past years, particularly the doubles, have not been well supported so members are urged to have a go and enter.

Entry is on-line only:
